Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin)

Founded in 1948 as West Berlin's answer to the Soviet-controlled Humboldt University during the Cold War division of the city, FU Berlin has grown into one of Germany's largest and most comprehensive universities, with over 30,000 students and genuine strength across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine (through its partnership in the Charité, Berlin's joint medical school).
